We are thrilled to announce the upcoming Opening Artist Reception at NY2CA Gallery in Benicia, where we will unveil an extraordinary exhibition titled “Voices of Vision” by the talented textile artist, Marty Jonas. This event promises to be a celebration of artistry and craftsmanship that you won’t want to miss.

Marty Jonas has spent a lifetime exploring the possibilities of fiber and thread as her chosen medium. Her work is a testament to her dedication to form, shape, line, color, and technique, and she considers herself a formalist, driven by a passion for creative exploration.
In her own words, Marty Jonas creates art that “stands out from a distance, but looks entirely different close up.” Her intricate stitches give life to her work, revealing a world of meticulous structures that reveal themselves upon closer inspection. This remarkable attention to detail is a hallmark of her artistry.

Raised by a strict German father, Jonas learned skills traditionally associated with fathers and mothers—knitting, crocheting, sewing, as well as hammering, sawing, and drilling. This unique blend of skills has shaped her artistic journey.

Marty Jonas’s journey into textile art took her from local classes to international education in embroidery, with a particular emphasis on form and technique. She believes that fiber and thread provide her with a tactile means of expressing what words cannot, making them an extension of her voice.

But perhaps what sets Marty Jonas apart most is her unwavering commitment to pushing artistic boundaries. Her mantra, “I could,” drives her to constantly experiment with materials and techniques. She believes that the act of creating is a journey of learning and self-discovery. As she aptly puts it, “Each piece you make leads you to another one.”
