NY2CA Gallery presents The Work of Earth & Hand, an exhibition by internationally recognized installation artist Jane Ingram Allen.
Allen’s work begins with natural materials and a deep respect for the living world. Using handmade paper, plant fibers, seeds, branches, and biodegradable materials, she creates art that reflects on ecology, impermanence, climate, water, growth, decay, and renewal.
At the heart of the exhibition is a powerful idea: art does not have to stand apart from nature. It can participate in it.
Allen transforms local plant waste into handmade paper, shaping fragile botanical materials into works that carry memory, texture, and place. In some of her outdoor installations, handmade paper dissolves over time, seeds sprout, and the artwork returns to the soil as compost, becoming nourishment and habitat.
The Work of Earth & Hand invites viewers to slow down, look closely, and consider the beauty of transformation. These works are quiet, organic, and deeply thoughtful, offering a moving conversation between human creativity and the natural systems that sustain us.
